The FTC starter kit for coaches

Your whole FTC season. Already planned.

Sprokets is the season HQ for FIRST Tech Challenge teams: 709 real tasks across 30 weeks, judging prep, a robot log, grants, and competition checklists. On every phone on your team.

Works on any phone, tablet, or laptop. Students never type an email or a password.

30weeks, kickoff to champs
12awards with official criteria
20grants & sponsor programs

How it works

Set up in about a minute. Then just check things off.

One coach creates the team. Everyone else joins with a six-character code. From then on every phone shows the same week, the same tasks, the same checkmarks.

1

The coach creates the team

Name it, enter your team number, pick your Week 1 date. All 30 weeks fall into place, dated for your season.

2

Students join with a code

Scan the QR on the handout, tap Join as a student, enter the code, tap your own name. No email. No password. No account.

3

Every phone stays in sync

Check off a task and it's checked on every screen in about half a second. Assign, reassign, and add your own tasks as the season goes.

Built for the mentors who said no to student emails. A student never types an email address or a password into Sprokets, only the team's student code. Contact details live with the adults, and the coach can change the code at any time.
What's inside

Everything a rookie coach spent a season figuring out, already in the app.

These screens are the real app, running a demo team. Nothing here is a mockup.

This week, already planned.

Every week has the tasks for the team lead, hardware, software, and business, taken from a real 30-week schedule. Assign each one to a student, then watch the checkmarks land on everyone's phone.

  • Tasks by role, so each student sees what's theirs
  • A team message board, plus one per division
  • Points for finished work, if your team likes a scoreboard
The This Week tab: assigned tasks with checkmarks and a team message board

Judging prep, built in.

Every FTC award with its official criteria, a judge-question drill, and a timed five-minute judging script. Mark the awards you're pursuing and the app tells you what the judges will look for.

  • Inspire, Think, Connect, Innovate, Control, Motivate, Design, and more
  • 36 real judge questions to practice out loud
  • Portfolio sections tied to the awards they support
The Awards tab: judge interview prep and the five-minute judging script

A robot log judges want to read.

Decision, test, result, failure, fix. Each entry is one row in the engineering record that becomes your portfolio, written the week it happened instead of the night before judging.

  • Filed by week and division
  • Feeds the portfolio tracker
  • Students write it. Coaches read it.
The Robot Log tab: two engineering entries with decision, test, metric, failure, and improvement
The Master List tab: all season tasks by division

The master list

All 709 tasks across the season, by division. Move one to another week, set it aside, or add your own.

The Outreach and Funding tab: grant library and sponsor tracker

Grants and sponsors, already found

20 programs with amounts and deadlines, plus a tracker for every sponsor from first email to check received.

The Competition tab: packing checklists for the pit, electronics, and booth bags

Competition day, with no wifi

Pit bag, electronics bag, booth bag, and the official inspection checklist. Assign every item to a person.

The Team tab: roster with roles and divisions

Roster, roles, and codes

Who's on the team and who leads what. Coaches see the codes and contact details. Students see the roster.

The story

Built by a rookie coach who needed it to exist.

Sarah Afflerbach started Flight Risk #32159 at Sage Creek High School with a room full of freshmen who had never touched a robot. The season plan that got them from kickoff to the San Diego Championship is the one inside Sprokets.

Every task, checklist, and award note came from that year. Sprokets is what she wished someone had handed her on day one, and what she now hands to every coach in the Sprokets HQ community.

Flight Risk, rookie season

  • 83–24won their first match, ever
  • 21–13season record across five events
  • 4th / 21league tournament rank, first pick in alliance selection
  • Finalistalliance, plus the Judges' Choice Award
  • Regionalsadvanced to the California – San Diego Championship

Questions

Things coaches ask first.

Do students need to make an account?

No. Students join with the team's six-character student code and tap their own name. They never type an email address or a password. Coaches and mentors get real accounts so there's always an adult behind full access.

Does it work without wifi at competitions?

Yes. Sprokets installs to the home screen like an app and keeps working offline. Checkmarks sync the next time a phone gets a signal.

Is the season plan only for rookie teams?

The plan came from a rookie season, but it covers the whole arc from kickoff to championships. Established teams move tasks, set aside the ones they don't need, and add their own.

What's on the phone? Do I need to install anything?

Nothing from an app store. Open sproketshq.com on any phone, tablet, or laptop. iPhone users tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Android shows an Install banner.

How do I get my team code?

Join Sprokets HQ on Skool. Your coach code is delivered there. You create the team, and the app gives you a student code and a printable handout for the kids.
